The big bad gopher snake The Mighty Scotty C almost stepped on

  • Sacatone Overlook to Carrizo Gorge Hike GPS Track
  • This time I used the self timer and took a picture of both of us before we headed down Cry Baby Hill. Scott on the left and me on the right
  • Scott found some morteros early in the trip, these were in an unamed wash at the bottom of Cry Baby Hill
  • Spring wild flowers in Anza Borrego
  • I stopped to look at this stone metate and found a lot of pottery and other small stone fragmments that looked like they were tools. The metate is hard to distinguish in the photo but the large round stone has a deep rubbed impression on it, obviously used to grind and crush things with.
  • Close up picture of some of the pottery sherds and other stone fragments we found near the metate. We also found more morteros in another unnamed wash and I am guessing there is more pottery to be found but it will have to wait until the snakes go back into hibernation.

  • Scotty "C" asking "is the trail that way?" Sure...I told him...pick any of them you see and just follow it....

  • Scott stepped within inches of this gopher snake and it wouldn't have harmed him but we were both on rattlesnake alert and this was the second of 4 snakes we would see on this trip
  • Balance Rock, this is a field marker we use to navigate this remote area of Anza Borrego
  • Fields of these small flowers covered the large open sandy areas rarely visited by people
